Top 25 of 2011: #2 Girls – Father, Son, Holy Ghost

Submitted by on January 1, 2012 – 2:45 pm

The dear Lord knows I love me some sad bastard music…just look as some of my favorite albums this year.  The thing that I loved most about this album was that on the surface it doesn’t come off as sad bastard music.  Disguised amongst the variety of retro/classic rock sounds and shoe gazed vocals…were lyrics littered with heartache.  The album reads like it was written by a guy on the mend…and he is taking us through his emotional recovery.

This album was a complete surprise and I almost passed it up.  I gave their first album several listens and I absolutely hated it…I only picked up this one because of the reviews it was getting.  During the first listen…by song number 3…after he reminded me several times that we are all going to die…I was sold.
